Okay, so the BBC race feed and the Sky race feed is exactly the same but Sky has a few features/things the BBC doesn’t have that make the broadcast slightly better.
- Red Button Interactivity: The Pitlane option on Sky’s “Race Control” is great because it has both the race footage and footage from the pitlane, an you can switch between the pitlane audio on the commentary. You can also choose between on-board footage from three drivers, or choose the mix of on-board footage. There’s also a live timings screen, and a highlights option (not entirely sure why this is useful during the race but ho-hum.) as well as a “quad-mix” which I’m assuming is mixed on board footage, pit footage and some other stuff.
- SkyPad: This is only really interesting if you’re interested in the more technical/detailed side of Formula One. They use the “SkyPad” to analyse things in more detail than the BBC does. They zoom in to footage and stuff like that.
- Commentary: Martin Brundle does it, which - if you’re very particular, like me - is a good thing as it’s a familiar voice doing the commentating. Again, I’m a very particular person and I really don’t like the BBC commentary now that Martin’s not doing it. Crofty does the Practice Session and Qualy (if I remember correctly, I’ve not really paid that much attention to it this weekend, if I’m honest, but that’s cause I missed Qualy thanks to concert excitement. Poor excuse I know.) Like I said, if you’re very anal about familiarity, and hate changing things once you’re used to certain people, this is a good thing.
- Ted Kravitz & Natalie Pinkham: For much the same reasons as the commentary, although I love Ted Kravitz a bit more than I think I should so maybe there’s some bias there.
- The buildup: It’s longer on the live footage and there’s much more race build up over the week than there is on the BBC which, for me because I’m really interested in what goes on during the week prior to the race, is something that I find really quite interesting. Plus the little mini challenges/championships (like the buzzer championship, which I die laughing at every time I watch Vitaly’s attempt, bless him) make it entertaining too.
Things Sky doesn’t have, which is why thee Sky broadcast may not be so good.
- Jake Humphrey, Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard: A thing which is always going to be bad., regardless of whether the broadcasting is bad or good.
- Georgie Whatsherface: I just don’t like her. Personally I think she just stands around asking pointless questions.
This is, of course, based off the fact that I’ve watched both the BBC and Sky Broadcast of the Formula One this weekend. I may need to watch more to fully round out this opinion.

Let’s see what kind of enhancements “Race Control” offers to me once it’s downloaded and installed.

I’ll be writing up a review of the race and qualifying only this time around, largely because I really haven’t the energy to haul myself out of bed to watch the practice sessions. However, I want podium predictions! Podium predictions everyone!

They’re showing testing and all sorts too.
And car unveilings. And they start coverage for the race at 4:30AM, which is earlier than on the BBC. Which should mean much more race build-up, more driver interviews and more everything. I dunno why, but I think this channel may be better than the BBC, but I’m gonna have to wait until China to make that decision, since that’s the first race that both are showing.
I’m gonna watch both coverages though, so that I can make a better judgement.

Well yes, there seem to be rather a lot of these, but we’re not jut going to be around for the offseason. No way, we’re going to be here for the whole of the 2012 season, hopefully.
The idea behind Double DRS was simple. Create an F1 blog, and post whatever we feel like posting on here - from a variety of gifs, to race reviews, thefrequent occasional pictures of established ships amongst other things. There will be swearing, shipping and fangirling, so enter at your own risk.
By the way, there will undoubtedly be several occasions where all we do is take the absolute piss out of Formula One, because it’s funny to do so. Basically, this will be lighthearted humour, and not meant to be taken seriously in any way, shape or form. Unless you want to take it seriously.
